Many salons will actually give you a free cut if you do it for locks of love. They used to have a list of participating places, but for some reason it no longer exists.

I had long hair.. not as long as yours but it was pretty long. I cut it shorter than I've had it in the past 2 years. I LOVE IT.... not having long hair. Long hair was cool for a while but it began to be annoying. It was quite liberating. I'm down w/long hair too though...I'm also lazy as well... as far as haircuts go. I probably went 7 months w/out a cut... it could easily happen again.

shave it to a quarter inch in length... and here's why:

1. it's not exactly a hair "style", so it won't really matter who you get to cut your hair (ie. you could get a friend with an electric razor to do it, which is much more personal)

2. if you like it (and it usually looks good on most guys) then you simply go out and purchase your own electric razor.

OR

if you don't really like it, then you've got a "clean slate" to start from and, as it grows back (which happens pretty quickly), you can play around different styles.. testing out what might work for you.

Added bonus: you need not make any excuses for the style you chose when people ask you about your lost hair.. you just say, "Yeah... I got sick of having long hair so I shaved it" rather than trying to explain whatever actual style you gambled on.
